Bill would also support those living with terminal illnesses.
The bipartisan Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act has been introduced in the Senate to support the healthcare workforce while aligning it with the nation’s healthcare needs. The bill also seeks to improve the quality of life and care for those who face serious or terminal illnesses.
Senator Angus King of Maine, one of the bill’s cosponsors, said, “Palliative and hospice care provides vital, personalized quality of life services for Maine people facing serious illnesses.“ He added, “As the need for this care grows, it’s important that we continue to invest in the proper resources and workforce for the field.“
He said the legislation will help to train more people who can perform services for those “with life-threatening illnesses, help the workforce meet evolving needs, and provide much-needed support to families taking care of their loved ones.”
The bill would seek to draw more workers into the healthcare sector and provide increased federal investment in training, education, and research in areas of specialized care.
